Postpartum Support Group for Muslim Moms in Illinois & Michigan

You love your baby. You can still miss yourself.

A free, 4-session virtual postpartum support group for Muslim moms in Illinois and Michigan who want somewhere to talk honestly about becoming a mother- the beautiful parts, the complicated parts, and especially the parts we don't always feel like we're supposed to say out loud.

Okay, but how are you doing?

Not the baby. You.

Because once you have a baby, somehow everyone wants to know how they're sleeping, how they're eating, whether you're breastfeeding, when you're going back to work, and whether they're a “good baby.”

Meanwhile, your entire life just changed.

Maybe you love your baby more than you knew was possible and you miss your old life.
Maybe everyone keeps telling you to enjoy every second and you're thinking, I haven't slept for more than three hours at a time in weeks.
Maybe you adore your family and also desperately want everyone to stop giving you advice.|
Maybe your relationship feels different. Your body feels different. Your faith feels different.
Maybe you're angry sometimes. Or lonely. Or touched-out. Or anxious. Or resentful about how much you're carrying.

And then maybe you feel guilty for even thinking any of that.

That's the stuff we want to talk about.

Because sometimes, as a community, we're not great at saying the hard stuff.

There can be so much love and support in Muslim families and communities.

And there can also be a lot of pressure.

Pressure to be grateful. To be patient. To respect your elders. To welcome the visitors. To take the advice. To be a good wife and daughter and daughter-in-law. To feel spiritually connected. To love motherhood. To not complain because this is a blessing.

And yes- your baby can be an incredible blessing.

You can still be having a hard time.

Struggling doesn't make you ungrateful. Needing a break doesn't make you selfish. Setting a boundary doesn't make you disrespectful. Having an intrusive thought doesn't make you a bad mother. And having complicated feelings about motherhood doesn't mean you love your baby any less.

Sometimes you just need somewhere you can say the whole sentence without somebody immediately trying to correct it.

This is that somewhere.

What we'll talk about

Postpartum life can bring up a lot at once. In this group, you’ll have space to talk honestly about the parts that feel beautiful, confusing, exhausting, uncomfortable, or hard to explain.

We’ll talk about the things we don’t always say out loud- the identity shifts, family pressure, resentment, guilt, anxiety, changes in your relationships and faith, and the feeling that everyone needs something from you when you’re still trying to figure out what you need.

This is a space to be honest, feel less alone, and connect with other Muslim moms who get it- without judgment, without having to explain all the context, and without pretending everything is fine.

Why specifically a group for Muslim moms?

Because sometimes you want to tell a story without spending the first ten minutes explaining the context.

You want to talk about your mother-in-law, your marriage, modesty, salah, family expectations, cultural traditions, or religious guilt without wondering whether everyone else in the room is going to get it.

And sometimes you want to talk honestly about something happening in our communities without having to defend our communities at the same time.

That's why we're starting here.

Not because every Muslim mom has the same experience- absolutely not. And not because postpartum support should only exist in faith-specific spaces.

This is simply one space where Muslim moms get to exhale a little and not explain quite so much.

And if you're reading this thinking, I would LOVE something like this, but I'm not Muslim- please tell us! We'd genuinely love to facilitate future postpartum groups that aren't faith-specific, too. This is one group we're starting with, not the only kind of group we believe deserves to exist.

And yes, it's completely free.

We're intentionally keeping the group small so it can actually feel like a group- not a webinar where 37 strangers stare at each other's initials on Zoom.

Because space is limited, filling out the interest form doesn't automatically reserve a spot. We'll reach out to confirm that you're in. If we fill up, we'll also give you the option to join the waitlist for the next group.

Come as you are.

You don’t have to have the right words- or have any of this figured out. There’s room for you here.
